As you sit by yourself in the middle of the forest like the lonely otaku you are, you wonder to yourself which of the Demon Slayer characters would be the best individuals to camp with. You begin to ponder and imagine, but alas your best boy and/or girl is clouding your reasoning. Luckily, you have me to tell you which characters would provide the best camping experience.

As we settle into June and take a look around, we can see the summer season beginning to roll in. The temperature is rising, days are longer, and most importantly the wisteria trees are in full bloom. During times like this, you know there’s only one thing you want to do and that’s sitting yourself down in a campsite and flipping through the pages of your favorite manga, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer). You may be asking what makes me qualified to rank these fictional characters and that makes sense. Well, I’m here to let you know that not only am I an Eagle Scout, but I am also a closeted otaku (I guess not anymore). So yeah…

Tanjiro & Nezuko Kamado - 9/10

Camping with Tanjiro and his sister, Nezuko, would make for a great experience.  Not only will they avoid causing drama on the trip, but both of them grew up in a forest together. With that type of upbringing, you have nothing to worry about as both Tanjiro and Nezuko are skilled in wilderness survival. Along with that, Tanjiro seems like the type of guy who is always prepared! Ran out of water? No problem, Tanjiro brought an extra bottle. There’s a hole in your tent? No problemo, Tanjiro has some supplies to patch that up. The fire is beginning to give out? Tanjiro already chopped some extra wood and used Fire Breathing to get that fire started again. Any way you look at it, these two will make for some superb campsite friends. The only concern is that you may be weirded out by their inseparable bond and how they communicate with each other with a series of muffled sounds.

Zenitsu Agatsuma - 2/10

I know that many of you Demon Slayer fans enjoy the comical relief that is Zenitsu; however, I am here to tell you why he would probably be one of the worst characters to go camping with.

During every second of the day, Zenitsu will be screaming his head off at every little sound in the forest. As he runs around crying and screaming, you will be left to do all of the hard work by yourself. If he is not in his constant panic and for once you hear sweet blissful silence, this may be because he is off harassing an innocent hiker to marry him before he dies. Camping with Zenitsu is not a vacation, it’s just a chore.

Hashibira Inosuke - 4/10

Inosuke, everyone’s favorite boar masked pretty boy. This handsome man might seem like the perfect campsite buddy since he too grew up in a forest, but you must remember he was literally raised by animals. Do you really want to deal with someone that believes in the “alpha-wolf” mentality even after you’ve told him about all the articles that scientifically prove that in the wild, wolf packs don’t have an alpha? Along with that, we all know that Inosuke would sneak out of the tent during the night to cut down the bear bag that the both of you hung up on the tree. Was this because he was hungry and just wanted one of the snacks you two packed together? No. It’s because he literally wants to fight a bear and he’s using the bag of food as bait.

Kyojuro Rengoku “Flame Hashira” - 7/10

If there was one character that you could define as the golden retriever himbo of Demon Slayer, it would be Rengoku. This beautiful man would make for a great camping partner as he would make sure that you were comfortable throughout the whole trip. Along with that, if anything bad were to happen you already know that you would be fully protected by him. At the end of the day, Rengoku would also be a great person to chat with over the campfire as he reassures you and shares his wisdom. The only reason why he has a seven out of ten rather than a ten out of ten is that he will verbally say everything he’s doing while he’s doing it. I hope you brought some earplugs, because while you are trying to sleep all you’ll hear is “寝ます!寝ます!寝ます!*” as he sleeps smiling with his eyes wide open.  ***Spoiler*** On top of that, he might also strangle you while you’re sleeping, but who knows you might be into that. I’m not here to judge. (*Sleeping! Sleeping! Sleeping!)

Shinobu Kocho “Insect Hashira” - 10/10

Similar to Rengoku, Shinobu would make for a great campsite friend, just as many of the hashira would.

Along with her ability to keep you safe with her swordsmanship, she has vast knowledge of flora and fauna.

With this knowledge, she will make sure that you don’t touch or consume anything in the forest that might be poisonous to your wellbeing.  Although she might not be the chattiest person in the world, her few words will move mountains with the amount of thought she puts into what she chooses to say. There is very little to complain about when it comes to Shinobu, as she keeps to herself and cares for those around her.

Sakonji Urokodaki “Former Water Hashira” - 1/10

Camping with Urokodaki would be like camping with your own grandfather. That is if your grandfather was hellbent on making you the strongest protagonist in the anime that is your own life. When camping with Urokodaki you will never be able to let your guard down as anything could be considered a test. Are you enjoying your s’more? Well, not anymore, because Urokodai just let you know that the antidote is somewhere in the forest! It would also be wise to be careful when leaving your tent as you never know what sort of traps he may have lied around it while you were fast asleep. My biggest piece of advice though is to avoid the famous nighttime hike he keeps on talking about. I know you want to just make your nice old jichan happy, but that nighttime hike is definitely going to become a race to the bottom of the mountain by sunrise. This man lied about the three-day getaway -- it was always supposed to be a three-day intensive training session.

Muzan Kibutsuji - 0/10

Do I really need to explain this?

Now that you have all the information you need, you are now prepared to select who would best suit your expectations while on a camping trip.  Be sure to choose wisely and go before the wisteria flowers begin to wither.
